Payday Loans vs Omozing Loans: An Honest Comparison, and When Switching Makes Sense

Table of Contents

In short: A payday loan is faster and easier to get for a small amount, but it is built to be repaid in one lump sum within weeks, and its fees and daily interest make it very expensive if you roll it over. An Omozing personal loan takes a little longer and has eligibility rules, but it spreads repayment into monthly EMIs over 3 to 36 months at rates starting from 11% a year. If you can repay a small payday loan in full next payday, it can be fine. If you are rolling over or juggling several app loans, switching to one EMI through Omozing SmartSwitch usually costs far less.

We are a lender, so read this knowing we have a side. We have tried to make it a fair comparison anyway: payday loans do some things better than we do, and Omozing isn’t the right choice for everyone. Where the numbers favour switching, we show the working. For a deeper look at how payday pricing works, see what a payday loan really costs.

Where payday loans genuinely win

Payday loans are better at…

  • Very small amounts for a few days.
  • Speed, when money is needed today.
  • Light eligibility for people a bank would turn down.
  • A one-off gap you can repay in full from your next salary.

Omozing is not for you if…

  • You are not salaried (we currently lend only to salaried people).
  • Your take-home pay is under ₹40,000 a month.
  • You need ₹5,000 for three days and can repay it on payday.
  • You need money within the hour.

If you are in the first group and use payday credit once, repay on time and stop there, it can do its job. The problem starts when it doesn’t stop there.

Where the comparison tips: the cost of rolling over

Here is an illustrative profile (not a real customer): ₹75,000 owed across three loan apps, ₹25,000 each. Every month the borrower can’t clear them, so they pay the fee and interest to roll each one over: a 10% fee plus 1% a day for 30 days, or ₹10,000 per app, ₹30,000 a month in total. The ₹75,000 never goes down.

Illustrative only. Rolling over: 10% fee + 1% a day for 30 days on each ₹25,000 loan, ₹30,000 a month. One EMI: ₹75,000 over 12 months at an illustrative 2% a month flat (₹7,750 a month) plus a 4% processing fee (₹3,000) not shown in the bars. This is an illustration, not a quoted rate; your actual terms are in your Key Fact Statement. Bar heights are proportional (₹3.6 lakh = 180 px).

≈ ₹3.4 lakhkept over a year in this illustration

How the ≈ ₹3.4 lakh works: after 12 months of rolling over, the borrower has paid ₹3.6 lakh and still owes ₹75,000, a total of ₹4.35 lakh. On the EMI route they have paid ₹93,000 and owe nothing. The difference is about ₹3.4 lakh (≈ ₹3.39 lakh after the ₹3,000 fee).

A payday loan is cheap for a week and expensive for a year. Most people who are struggling are in the year, not the week.

How SmartSwitch works

Omozing SmartSwitch is built for exactly this situation: a salaried borrower carrying several short-term app loans.

  1. List your app loans

Every app, lender, amount owed and due date. The SmartSwitch calculator shows what you pay each month now.

  2. Apply once

A credit officer reviews your full credit report and salary history. You see the Key Fact Statement with your rate, fees and APR before you sign.

  3. Money goes to your own account

The loan is credited to your bank account, as RBI rules require, not to a third party.

  4. Close each app loan

You repay each app within about 7 days and share the NOCs or closure confirmations with us.

  5. Repay one EMI

One date, one amount, a fixed end. No more rollover fees.

Before you switch: an honest checklist

  • You are salaried with a take-home of ₹40,000 or more a month.
  • Your credit score is 600 or above (late app payments may have pulled it down; we read the full report).
  • The new EMI fits your budget with room for rent, food and a small buffer.
  • You will close the app loans with the money, not use it for something else.
  • You will stop taking new app loans once you have switched.

Approval is never guaranteed: we lend only when the EMI fits your income. If switching isn’t possible yet, our guides to getting rid of payday loans and alternatives to payday loans can help.

How to check any lender, including us

Whoever you borrow from, check that the lender is a bank or RBI-registered NBFC, that you receive a Key Fact Statement before signing, that the app doesn’t ask for access to your contacts or photos, and that no fee is demanded before approval. Omozing is the lending brand of Aparampaar Finance Private Limited, an RBI-registered non-deposit-taking NBFC, and never asks for any fee before approval. You can also look up apps on the RBI-approved loan app list maintained by FundsTiger, our sister company, and read our guide to spotting fake loan apps.

Frequently asked questions

Is an Omozing loan cheaper than a payday loan?

For anything you can’t repay in full within a few weeks, usually yes. Omozing rates start from 11% a year with monthly EMIs, while payday loans often combine an upfront fee with interest around 1% a day. Your exact Omozing rate and APR are in the Key Fact Statement.

When is a payday loan the better choice?

When you need a small amount quickly, for a genuine one-off need, and can repay it in full on your next payday without borrowing again. If you are not salaried or earn under ₹40,000 a month, Omozing may not be an option.

What is Omozing SmartSwitch?

A way for salaried borrowers to replace several short-term app loans with one Omozing loan and one monthly EMI. The money goes to your own bank account, you close each app loan within about 7 days and share the NOCs.

Is Omozing a genuine, RBI-registered lender?

Yes. Omozing is the digital lending brand of Aparampaar Finance Private Limited, an RBI-registered non-deposit-taking NBFC. Our regulatory disclosures and grievance redressal process are published on our website.

Will switching from payday loans improve my CIBIL score?

No one can promise a score change. But closing several app loans and paying one EMI on time, every month, builds the kind of repayment record that lenders and bureaus value.

Can I get an Omozing loan if my score dropped because of app loans?

Possibly. We consider salaried applicants with a credit score from 600, and a credit officer reads your full report rather than relying only on the number. Approval depends on your income, existing EMIs and history.
