Omozing Answers › Scams and fraud

A message says my loan is approved if I pay a fee. Is it real?

No, treat it as a scam. Genuine lenders don’t ask you to pay anything to “release” an approved loan. A real loan starts with your own application, a credit check and a Key Fact Statement (KFS) that shows the rate, fees and APR in writing before you sign, and the money is paid into your own bank account. A message offering an approved loan you never applied for, in return for a “file charge”, “GST” or “insurance” fee paid to a UPI ID, is almost always a fraud. Don’t pay, and don’t send documents.

How a real loan works, and how the fee scam works

The two can start with similar words. The difference is in which way the money moves. In a genuine loan, money flows to you first. In the scam, money only ever flows from you.

A genuine loan vs an upfront-fee scam

A genuine loan: money comes to you An upfront-fee scam: money only leaves you 1 · You applyon the lender’sown website 2 · Checksdocuments andcredit report 3 · KFSrate, fees, APRin writing 4 · You signonly afterreading the KFS 5 · Money inpaid into yourown account 1 · “Approved!”no applicationwas ever made 2 · File feepay ₹2,999 to“release” it 3 · Then GSTor insuranceor stamp duty 4 · One morea “last fee” tounlock funds 5 · Gonenumber off, money lost

Illustrative. The ₹2,999 is a made-up amount; scammers ask for anything from a few hundred rupees to tens of thousands, and the fee names change constantly.

Red flags in a “loan approved” message

What most people get wrong: they pay the first small fee because it seems a fair price for a big loan, then keep paying to avoid losing what they’ve already paid. Each “last fee” is followed by another. The loan never existed, so no fee will ever release it. Stop at the first request.

Do genuine lenders charge fees at all?

Yes, but differently. A regulated lender may charge a processing fee, and it is shown in the KFS, with the rate and APR, before you sign anything. Under RBI’s digital lending rules, the loan is paid directly from the lender’s account into the borrower’s own bank account. Omozing’s processing fee is 3% to 7% plus GST, shown in the KFS, and we never ask for any payment before approval.

  1. Report it straight away

Call 1930 or file at cybercrime.gov.in. The faster you report, the better the chance of freezing the money. Keep the UPI reference, screenshots and phone numbers.

  2. Tell your bank

Call the number on your card or passbook and report the transaction. Don’t pay anything more, whatever they promise.

  3. Report the entity

Flag the number under “Chakshu” on Sanchar Saathi (sancharsaathi.gov.in), and report unauthorised lenders on RBI’s Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in).

  4. Watch your credit report

If you sent PAN, Aadhaar or a selfie, watch for enquiries or accounts you don’t recognise. See whether someone can take a loan on your PAN.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal to pay a fee before a loan is disbursed?

Paying a separate fee to “release” an approved loan is a classic scam sign. Genuine fees are set out in the Key Fact Statement before you sign the loan agreement.

The message uses a real lender’s name. Could it be genuine?

Scammers often borrow real names. Go to the lender’s official website yourself and check there, or write to its official email address.

Can I get my money back after paying a loan fee scam?

Sometimes, if you report quickly. Call 1930 or file at cybercrime.gov.in at once so the money can be traced and, where possible, frozen.

Does Omozing ever ask for a fee before approval?

No. Omozing never asks for upfront fees before approval and pays only into the borrower’s own bank account. See how to check a message is from us.

I sent my PAN and Aadhaar to the scammer. What now?

Report the fraud, lock your Aadhaar biometrics through UIDAI, and watch your credit report and bureau alerts for anything you don’t recognise.
