Layouts differ slightly between bureaus and change over time, but the building blocks are the same. Here is a simplified mock-up with the six parts numbered.
Illustrative mock-up with made-up data, simplified for reading. Real CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF reports use their own layouts and show more fields, such as account numbers, dates opened and closed, and asset classification.
| Section | What it shows | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Score | Your score on the 300–900 scale and the report date | The date, so you know how fresh the data is. -1 or NH means no history |
| 2. Personal information | Name, date of birth, PAN and other IDs | Spelling and numbers; a wrong PAN can pull in someone else’s loans |
| 3. Contact information | Addresses, phone numbers and emails lenders have reported | Anything you don’t recognise can be a sign of misuse |
| 4. Employment | Occupation and income as reported by lenders | Often old; worth updating, but lenders verify income from your documents |
| 5. Accounts | Every loan and card: type, lender, status, balance, overdue, DPD | Loans you never took, closed loans still open, wrong overdue amounts, any “settled” or “written off” |
| 6. Enquiries | Lenders that pulled your report after an application, with dates | Enquiries you didn’t make, and clusters of many in a short time |
Each account has a payment-history grid. 000 or STD means paid on time that month. A number such as 030 or 060 is how many days past due the payment was. Our explainer on what DPD and SMA mean decodes every label. Then look at the account status: “closed” is what you want for a loan you’ve repaid, while “settled” or “written off” means the lender recorded a shortfall or a loss. See what written off means.
Disputes are free and must be resolved within 30 days. Our step-by-step dispute guide shows how.
Errors can be corrected for free. Accurate entries can’t be removed by anyone, but they can be explained and outgrown.
The accounts section. It holds your repayment history, which is what lenders read most closely and what drives the score.
It means the payment for that month was made on time, with zero days past due.
Lenders report the address they hold, so old addresses are common. An address you have never lived at is worth checking, as it can point to a loan in your name that isn’t yours.
It is reported for information. Lenders check your current salary from your payslip and bank statement when you apply.
No. Only errors can be corrected, and that is free. Anyone charging to remove accurate entries is promising something they cannot do.
