Band labels are a general guide. Each lender sets its own cut-offs, and each bureau scores slightly differently.
Banks that set their unsecured-loan cut-off at 750 now consider you, alongside NBFCs and card issuers.
With several offers you can compare the APR in each Key Fact Statement and ask a lender to match a better one.
A strong score lets lenders look at bigger loans, as long as your salary and existing EMIs support the repayment.
Lenders often screen people with strong scores for offers. Screening is a soft enquiry and doesn’t affect you.
Income below a lender’s floor, high EMIs or a burst of applications can still mean a no. Why 750+ applicants get declined.
Rate also depends on income, employer, tenure and amount. How score and rate connect.
Less than most people think. The jump from the 600s to 750 changes which lenders will look at you. Above 750, the score has done most of its work, and lenders turn to the details: how stable your income is, how much of it already goes on EMIs, and whether the last 12 months are spotless.
| What lenders look at | At 750 | At 820 |
|---|---|---|
| Score cut-off for most products | Usually cleared | Cleared |
| Income and FOIR (share of take-home on EMIs) | Checked separately | Checked separately |
| Recent late payments and enquiries | Read in the report | Read in the report |
| Employer and job stability | Lender’s own policy | Lender’s own policy |
An illustrative comparison. Lenders don’t publish exact rules for each score, and each one weighs these factors differently.
Rates start from 11% a year, with loans up to ₹25 lakh over 3–36 months and two documents. Your exact rate and APR are in the Key Fact Statement before you sign.
Yes. 750 is the start of the top band on the 300–900 scale and clears the cut-off of most banks and NBFCs for personal loans and cards.
For most applications, not much. Both usually clear score cut-offs, and lenders then decide on income, existing EMIs and recent repayment history.
It helps, but rate also depends on your income, employer, loan amount and tenure. Compare the APR in each lender’s Key Fact Statement.
Yes. Common reasons are high existing EMIs, income below the lender’s floor, employer criteria or several recent applications.
Pay every bill on time, keep card use under about 30% of the limit, apply for credit only when you need it, and check your report regularly for errors.
