Most statement-based rejections come from one of these. Each has its own fix:
| What the statement showed | Why it matters | What to do before reapplying |
|---|---|---|
| Bounced EMI or auto-debit returns | Shows repayments failing, even if paid days later | Fix the cause, often the EMI date; see bounces and rejection |
| Repayments not on your credit report | Real obligations the lender couldn’t see elsewhere | Declare them; close or consolidate small ones |
| Salary credit differs from the slip, or arrives irregularly | Income can’t be confirmed | Get an employer letter explaining the difference |
| Balance runs out well before payday | No room for a new EMI | Lower the amount, lengthen the tenure or add a co-applicant |
| Large unexplained credits or transfers | Possible undeclared borrowing | Explain each one in a short note |
| Salary not in the account you shared | The statement can’t do its job | Share the salary account |
Tara is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. She takes home ₹68,000, has a score of 712 and a ₹7,500 scooter EMI paid on time. She was surprised to be declined. When she read her own statement the way a lender would, the gap was obvious:
An illustrative profile, not a real customer. The bounced EMIs were paid within days, so they had not shown on her report.
Neither finding is fatal on its own. Together, they told the lender that her real commitments were almost three times what her form said, and that her one declared EMI sometimes failed. Here is what Tara did over the next two months:
The lender confirmed “repayment capacity”. You can ask too.
She asked her scooter lender to move the debit after payday; see EMI dates vs salary date.
And listed the other two on her next application.
With two clean months and every obligation declared.
It gets harder when:
What helps:
A credit report shows what lenders have reported. A bank statement shows what actually happens to your salary. Lenders use the second to check the first: is the income real and regular, are there obligations the report misses, do repayments go through? They don’t publish exactly how they weigh each line, and no single entry usually decides. A rejection after statement review usually means the two views didn’t match, and the fix is to make them match honestly. More in rejections and reapplying.
We ask for your last 6 months’ salary-account bank statement, your latest salary slip, and PAN and Aadhaar for KYC. A credit officer reads your full credit report, not just the score, and reads your statement too, so explanations you give are considered. Co-applicants are welcome: spouse, family members, and even friends.
Salaried, take-home ₹40,000 or more, credit score from 600? Check your offer, or read how lenders read statements first.
Yes. The score reflects reported credit; the bank statement can show bounces, unreported loans or a tight budget that change the decision.
Many lenders share a broad reason, such as repayment capacity. Ask, then read your own statement to find the likely line.
A rejection is generally not shown as a separate item, but the hard enquiry from your application is.
Until the fix shows on a new statement, usually after one or two clean salary cycles. See when to reapply after a rejection for more.
No. Share your salary account, and explain other accounts if needed. A different account without your salary raises more questions.
