“No CIBIL score” is not a bad score
A credit score is built from your repayment history. If you have never had a loan, credit card or EMI purchase reported to a bureau, there is nothing to score. Your report may show “NH” (no history) or a value like -1 instead of a number between 300 and 900. This is called a thin file or being new to credit, and it is common among first-job graduates, people who have always paid cash, and those returning from abroad.
New to credit (no score)
No history, good or bad. Lenders can’t see how you repay, so they look elsewhere: your salary, your bank account and your job.
Low or bad score
History exists and shows problems such as late payments, defaults or settlements. Lenders weigh those directly. See our guide to a personal loan for a low or bad CIBIL score.
How lenders assess you without a score
When the bureau has nothing to say, a careful lender builds the picture from other evidence. This is roughly the order in which it looks:
| What lenders check instead | What helps you | What hurts you |
|---|---|---|
| Salary credits | Same date, same account, every month | Cash salary or irregular credits |
| Bank balance pattern | A cushion left before payday | Account at zero for days each month |
| Bounces and charges | None | Bounced auto-debits, minimum-balance penalties |
| Employment | Established employer, 6–12+ months in the job | Very new job, frequent switches |
| Existing obligations | Few or none | Informal loans visible as regular transfers |
| Co-applicant | A family member with a good score and income | None available |
General description of how lenders evaluate thin files. Each lender has its own policy.
Why “without income proof” is a red flag
Many searches ask for an urgent loan without CIBIL and without income proof. Be careful here. Under RBI rules, a regulated bank or NBFC has to assess whether you can repay. A lender that claims to need neither a credit check nor any proof of income, and asks you to pay a “processing” or “insurance” fee before money arrives, is following the pattern of a fake loan app. Read how to spot a loan-app scam, and if you have already been targeted, report it on the cybercrime helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in.
- Genuine lenders deduct fees from the disbursed amount; they don’t collect them first. Omozing never asks for upfront fees.
- The loan must come from an RBI-registered bank or NBFC, named in the app and in the Key Fact Statement.
- Regulated apps may not access your contacts, call logs or photos.
- Money must come straight into your bank account from the lender.
Realistic options if you have no credit history
Salary advance from your employer
The simplest first step. Often interest-free, no bureau check, deducted from salary.
A small loan from your salary-account bank
Your own bank can see years of salary credits and may offer a pre-approved loan or card even without a score.
Loan against an FD or gold
The asset backs the loan, so the missing score matters little. Fast and relatively cheap.
A personal loan with a co-applicant
A spouse, parent or sibling with an established score and steady income can carry the application. Read how co-applicants help.
An NBFC that underwrites on bank statements
Some NBFCs lend to new-to-credit salaried applicants, usually starting with modest amounts and shorter tenures, then offering more once you have repaid.
A word of honesty about Omozing: our personal loans currently need a credit score from 600, along with a take-home salary of ₹40,000 a month or more. If you have no score at all, we may not be the right first lender, though a co-applicant with an established score can sometimes change the picture. Once you have a few months of history, our personal loan for scores from 600 becomes an option.
Build a score from zero in about six months
The fastest way out of the “no score” trap is to create a short, clean record. Bureaus can usually generate a score once there is around six months of reported repayment history.
A simple plan to build a credit score from scratch
Indicative timeline. When a score appears and what it is depends on the bureau and on how you manage the account; no one can promise a particular score.
- Secured credit card against an FD: the easiest builder for anyone with savings.
- Auto-debit for every bill so a missed date never becomes a missed payment.
- Keep card usage low, ideally under 30% of the limit.
- Don’t apply everywhere. Several rejected applications create hard enquiries before you even have a score.
- Check your report after six months; you get one free full report per bureau each calendar year.
For structured help, the Credit Score Booster programme covers building as well as repairing a record.
An illustrative example
Ananya (an illustrative profile, not a real customer) is 24, eight months into her first job in Bengaluru, and earns ₹45,000 a month. She has never had a card or loan, so her CIBIL report shows no score.
She needs ₹60,000 for a relocation deposit. Her employer advances ₹25,000 interest-free. She opens a secured card against a small FD and uses it for groceries, paid in full. Six months later her report shows a score, and she now has a record lenders can read the next time she needs to borrow. Had she instead downloaded five instant-loan apps, she would have risked expensive rollovers and a first credit entry that hurts rather than helps.
Have a few months of credit history now?
Omozing lends to salaried people with a credit score from 600 and take-home pay of ₹40,000 a month or more. A credit officer reads your full report, and you can add a co-applicant.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a personal loan without a CIBIL score?
Yes, from some lenders. If you have no credit history, certain banks and NBFCs assess salary credits, bank statements and employment instead, often starting with smaller amounts. A co-applicant with an established score can also help.
Is no CIBIL score better than a low score?
Usually, yes. No score means no information, while a low score means a record of problems. Many lenders treat a thin file more kindly than recent defaults, though they may lend smaller amounts at first.
Can I get an urgent loan without CIBIL and income proof?
Not from a genuine regulated lender, which must check that you can repay. Offers that skip both checks and ask for an upfront fee are a common scam pattern; report them on the cybercrime helpline 1930.
How long does it take to get a CIBIL score?
Usually around six months after your first credit account starts reporting repayments. Using a secured credit card or small loan responsibly is the quickest way to get there.
Does Omozing lend without a CIBIL score?
Omozing’s personal loans currently need a credit score from 600 and take-home pay of ₹40,000 a month or more. If you have no score yet, applying with a co-applicant who has one may help, or you can build a short history first.
Will checking my own CIBIL report hurt my chances?
No. Checking your own report is a soft enquiry and does not affect your score. Only lender enquiries made when you apply for credit count as hard enquiries.
