Omozing Answers › Eligibility

Can I check my loan eligibility without hurting my CIBIL score?

Yes. Checking your own CIBIL or other bureau score, downloading your free full credit report and running a salary-based calculator are soft actions that never lower your score. What can cause a small, temporary dip is a hard enquiry, recorded when a lender pulls your report because you formally applied. So do the homework first: estimate your eligibility from your take-home pay and existing EMIs, read your report, then submit one application to a lender whose published criteria you clearly meet.

What changes the answer

Whether a check touches your score depends on who looks at your report, and why.

Who pulls the report

When you check your own score, it is a soft enquiry. When a lender pulls it to decide on credit you applied for, it is usually a hard enquiry.

What the consent screen says

Some lender pre-checks use only the details you type in. If the screen asks you to authorise the lender to fetch your credit report for a loan application, assume a hard enquiry.

How many applications, how fast

One application is a small event. Five in ten days reads as credit hunger, and the cluster hurts more than any single enquiry.

How thick your file is

A long, clean history absorbs an enquiry easily. A thin file with one or two accounts feels the same enquiry more.

An example: checking first, applying once

Tanvi is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. She takes home ₹58,000 a month, pays a ₹6,500 EMI on a two-wheeler and wants ₹4 lakh for a family wedding. Before applying anywhere, she runs the same sum lenders run, using FOIR (the share of take-home that can go on all EMIs together):

Her self-check40% FOIR50% FOIR
All EMIs allowed₹23,200₹29,000
Minus her two-wheeler EMI₹16,700₹22,500
Loan it supports, 14%, 24 months₹3,47,000₹4,68,000
Loan it supports, 14%, 36 months₹4,88,000₹6,58,000

Illustrative figures, rounded down to the nearest ₹1,000. 14% a year is an example rate, not an offer; Omozing’s rates start from 11% a year. FOIR limits vary by lender.

₹4 lakh sits inside her range over 36 months, so she does not need to “test” five apps to find out. She downloads her free report, finds nothing wrong, and applies once. Total hard enquiries: one.

Which steps touch your score

Soft: no effect on your score Checking your own score Your free full credit report A salary or EMI calculator A pre-check using only details you type in Hard: small, temporary dip Submitting a loan application Applying for a credit card Several applications in a short time the cluster hurts more

A general guide. If a lender’s screen asks for consent to fetch your credit report for an application, treat it as a hard enquiry.

How lenders look at it

A lender reading your enquiry section is not counting points; it is reading a story. One enquiry followed by a new loan looks like ordinary borrowing. A run of enquiries with no new account suggests you were declined elsewhere, and that makes the next lender more careful. The effect of an enquiry also fades over the following months as long as you keep paying on time; how long an enquiry matters explains the curve.

At Omozing

Omozing offers unsecured personal loans for salaried people. You need a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more a month, and we consider applicants with a credit score from 600. A credit officer reads your full credit report, not just the score. The exact interest rate, fees and APR are shown in the Key Fact Statement (KFS) before you sign.

What most people get wrong: they think “checking eligibility” on several apps is free window-shopping. Often it is a formal application in disguise, and five of them in a week look worse to the sixth lender than one honest application ever would.

Done your homework?

If you are salaried, take home ₹40,000 or more and your score is from 600, check your offer with one application. Loans up to ₹25 lakh over 3 to 36 months.

Frequently asked questions

Does a loan eligibility calculator affect my CIBIL score?

No. A calculator only uses the salary and EMI figures you type in; it does not pull your credit report, so nothing is recorded with the bureaus.

Is a pre-approved offer from my bank a hard enquiry?

Seeing the offer usually is not, but accepting it and applying normally leads to a full check. A pre-approved offer is not a final sanction and is subject to verification and the Key Fact Statement.

How can I tell if an app will do a hard enquiry?

Read the consent screen. If it asks you to authorise the lender to fetch your credit report for a loan, treat it as a hard enquiry, and expect a bureau alert by SMS or email when your report is accessed.

How many loan applications are too many?

There is no fixed number, but several in a few weeks is what lenders notice most. Aim for one well-chosen application, and find the reason before trying again if it is declined.

Can I compare lenders without hurting my score?

Yes, compare their published criteria, rates and fees first, then apply to the one you clearly fit. Compare final offers on the APR shown in each Key Fact Statement, not on the headline rate. More in our eligibility questions.

Do my existing EMIs reduce how much I can borrow? What does a pre-approved personal loan offer really mean? Why do different lenders offer me different loan amounts?
