Omozing Answers › Loan apps and consolidation
Written by the Omozing Credit Team, which includes IIT and IIM alumni · Reviewed for accuracy by our credit and compliance team · Updated October 2026
| Consolidation | Settlement | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens to the debt | Repaid in full with money from one new loan | Lender accepts less than owed; the rest is not collected |
| Cash you need | One EMI a month for a fixed tenure | A lump sum, usually paid at once or in a few parts |
| Eligibility | You must qualify for a new loan: salary, credit report and an EMI that fits | The lender must agree, usually only after a long overdue period |
| Speed | Apps close once the new loan is disbursed and you repay them | Months of overdue status before an offer is likely |
| Credit report | Old loans “closed”; one new loan, paid on time, builds history | Overdue marks, then “settled”, visible for years |
| Main risk | Borrowing from apps again on top of the new EMI | Penal charges and collection calls while overdue; the lender may refuse |
| When it fits | You can afford one EMI that clears everything | You genuinely cannot repay, even with family help or more time |
Abdul is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. He owes ₹75,000 across three apps. Rolled over, they cost him about ₹30,000 a month in fees and interest, and the ₹75,000 is still due every month. A colleague tells him to stop paying and wait for a settlement offer. Here are his two paths, with illustrative figures.
Illustrative figures: ₹75,000 across three apps, about ₹30,000 a month when rolled over, one EMI of about ₹7,750 for 12 months, a hypothetical settlement at 60%. Not an offer and not an Omozing or SmartSwitch rate.
Settlement saves Abdul about ₹48,000 in cash on paper. But it costs him four months of overdue marks, collection calls, penal charges while he is overdue, and a settled account that any future lender will see. Consolidation costs more cash and leaves a clean, closed record. For what each status means, see settled vs closed on your report.
A lender reading your report asks one question: will this person repay in full? Closed accounts and a loan paid on time answer yes. A settled account answers “not last time”, whatever the reason, and it stays readable for years. That is why most lenders weigh a settlement far more heavily than a few closed app loans.
SmartSwitch consolidates several short-term loan-app loans into one Omozing loan with one EMI, so you deal with one lender and one due date. The money goes to your own bank account; you close each app loan and share the NOCs. Like every Omozing loan, it is subject to credit assessment, and a credit officer reads your full credit report.
See whether one loan can replace your app loans, or plan how to close them one by one.
Yes. Consolidation lets the old loans close in full, while settlement leaves a negative “settled” status that stays visible for years.
Lenders usually discuss settlement only once a loan is seriously overdue, which is exactly why it damages your report. Never stop paying in order to get an offer.
Paying the shortfall and getting the lender to update the account to closed helps. See settled vs closed.
Ask each lender early whether they can give you more time, consider family help, and keep settlement as the last resort.
