Omozing Answers › Rejections and reapplying

What should I fix before I reapply for a loan?

In short: Fix things in this order: errors on your credit report (free, and often the biggest win), anything overdue, small loans you can close, high credit card balances, and finally the loan request itself, meaning the amount and tenure. Then make sure your documents tell one consistent story: the same name, employer and salary across your slip, bank statement and application. Check that each fix shows on your updated credit report before you apply, and apply once.

What changes the answer

Not every fix is worth the same. Rank them by how much they help and how quickly they reach your report:

FixCost to youWhy it matters to a lender
1. Report errors: a closed loan shown open, a loan that isn’t yoursFreeWrong data can add a phantom EMI or a false late mark
2. Overdue amounts, however smallThe duesRecent missed payments weigh more than almost anything else
3. Small loans near the endThe balanceEach closed loan removes an EMI from the FOIR sum
4. Card balancesPaydownHigh use of your limit looks stretched, and part of it may count as an obligation
5. The request: amount and tenureNothingA request sized to your take-home is easier to approve
6. Consistent documentsA little timeMismatched names or salary figures slow or stop verification

An example: four fixes, one application

Lakshmi is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. She takes home ₹52,000 a month and was declined for ₹4 lakh over 24 months. At an example rate of 14% a year, that EMI is ₹19,205. Her full report showed:

Lakshmi’s FOIR as each fix lands

50% illustrative cap 0% As applied 60.8% 1. Error corrected 53.1% 2. App loans closed 43.5% 3. Card down to ₹20k 38.9% All EMIs and counted card dues as a share of ₹52,000

Bars drawn to scale. Illustrative: example rate 14% a year (not an offer; Omozing’s rates start from 11% a year); the card obligation assumes 5% of the outstanding balance, an example only, as lenders’ practice varies; 50% is an illustrative cap.

The free fix came first and took her from 60.8% to 53.1%. The ₹18,500 to clear the app loans removed ₹5,000 of EMIs. Bringing the card down to ₹20,000 also took her use of the limit from 85% to 25%, which helps her score as well as the sum. She checked her updated report, confirmed all three changes, and applied once.

How lenders look at it

A lender sees a snapshot: your credit report on the day it pulls it, plus your recent bank statement and salary slip. It doesn’t know about the dispute you raised yesterday or the loan you plan to close next week. That is why the order matters: fixes only count once they are visible. Lenders report to bureaus four times a month from July 2026, on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and the last day, so changes reach your report faster than before, but always check rather than assume.

At Omozing

A credit officer reads your full credit report, not just the score. We consider salaried applicants with a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more a month and a credit score from 600. You need your last 6 months’ salary-account bank statement, your latest salary slip, and PAN and Aadhaar for KYC.

What most people get wrong: they assume a rejection means “improve your score” and start with slow habits, while a free, fast fix, such as a closed loan still showing open, sits unnoticed on their report. Read the report line by line before anything else.

Frequently asked questions

What is the first thing to fix after a loan rejection?

Errors on your credit report. They cost nothing to correct and can change the result on their own.

Should I close my credit card before reapplying?

Usually not. Paying the balance down helps; closing the card removes available limit and can raise your utilisation on other cards.

Is it worth closing a small loan before reapplying?

Often yes, if the balance is small: it removes a whole EMI from the FOIR sum. Check any foreclosure charge, and wait until the report shows it closed.

Do I need to fix my score before reapplying?

Fix the cause, not the number. A specific problem, such as an overdue bill or high FOIR, usually explains the rejection better than the score itself.

How do I know my fixes have worked?

Download your report again and check each item. Checking your own report is a soft enquiry and doesn’t affect your score.

Next questions people ask:

How soon can I reapply after a loan rejection? My loan was rejected for high FOIR. What can I do? My closed loan still shows as active. How do I fix it?
