Lenders don’t report a “missed EMI” as a single event. They report how many days your account is past due on each reporting date. From 1 July 2026, that is four times a month: the 9th, 16th, 23rd and the last day. So the longer an EMI stays unpaid, the more reporting dates it is caught on, and the higher the DPD number becomes.
Bar height shows rising seriousness, not score points. No one can quote a fixed number of points for a missed EMI: it depends on the rest of your report.
| How late | What your report can show | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Paid within a few days | Possibly a small DPD entry, if caught on a reporting date | A minor dent. A clean run of payments after it fades its weight over time. |
| 1–30 days (SMA-0) | DPD up to 30 for that month | A visible late payment. New lenders will ask about it, especially if recent. |
| 31–60 days (SMA-1) | DPD 31–60 | A clear warning sign. Many lenders decline new unsecured loans for some time after. |
| 61–90 days (SMA-2) | DPD 61–90 | Serious. The lender is likely chasing recovery and must notify you before reporting a default. |
| 90+ days (NPA) | Default; may later be settled or written off | The hardest to recover from, visible for years. Rebuilding after a default. |
Two other costs come straight away, whatever the bureau sees: a bounce charge if the auto-debit failed, and late-payment interest from your lender. Both are listed in your loan’s Key Fact Statement.
Every day matters. Paying before the next reporting date keeps the DPD as low as possible.
Confirm the amount, including any bounce charge, and ask for written confirmation once it is paid.
If the auto-debit failed because of the account balance, move your EMI date closer to your salary date or keep a buffer.
Make sure it shows the correct DPD and that the account is current again. If it is wrong, raise a dispute.
Lenders weigh recent behaviour most. Six to twelve on-time months after a single slip tell a very different story from a pattern.
If one missed EMI is a sign that several loans have become too much to juggle, especially small app loans, it is worth tackling the cause rather than the symptom. SmartSwitch replaces several short-term loans with one Omozing EMI.
We lend to salaried applicants from a score of 600, and a credit officer reads the full story behind a late month.

There is no fixed number. It depends on how late the payment is, how recent it is and how strong the rest of your report is.
It can be. Lenders report how many days you are past due on each reporting date, and from July 2026 there are four a month, so even a short delay may be captured.
It stays in your payment history for years, but its weight fades as you add on-time months after it.
Only if it is an error, in which case you can dispute it for free. An accurate late payment can’t be removed.
Often, yes, especially if it was a single short delay followed by clean months. Lenders will ask about it, so be ready to explain what happened.
