Omozing Answers › Credit scores and bureaus

Who can see my credit report?

In short: You, and lenders with a genuine reason to look. Credit bureaus (TransUnion CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark) share reports with their members, mainly regulated banks and NBFCs, when you apply for credit or already hold an account with them. Your employer, landlord, family or a “score agent” can’t simply pull it from a bureau; they can only see it if you share a copy. Every lender check is listed in the enquiry section of your report, and bureaus send an SMS or email alert when your report is accessed, so you can spot a look you didn’t expect.

The people who can, and can’t, open your file

Who gets your report from a credit bureau

Credit bureau CIBIL, Experian, Equifax, CRIF You Any time, free once a year per bureau · no effect A lender you apply to With your consent · hard enquiry, small dip Your existing lenders and card issuers Account reviews · soft enquiry, no effect Lenders screening pre-approved offers Soft enquiry · no effect on your score ✕ Employers, landlords, family, agents Can’t pull it directly; only if you share a copy

Arrows show where your report goes. Bureau access is for members, mainly regulated lenders, and for you. Anyone else sees it only if you hand it over.

The rule behind this is simple: a bureau shares your file with a lender because that lender is deciding whether to give you credit, or is managing credit it has already given you. When you apply for a loan or card, you authorise the lender to check your report as part of the application. That is why a loan you never applied for, or an enquiry from a lender you have never heard of, is worth taking seriously.

Every look leaves a trail

The last row is the one to watch. A fraudster who has your PAN and some personal details can apply in your name, and the lender’s check then shows up on your report. Bureaus send an alert when your report is accessed, so an alert you didn’t expect is often the first warning. Can someone take a loan on my PAN or Aadhaar?

What most people get wrong: they worry that their employer or landlord is quietly checking their CIBIL score, while ignoring the alerts that actually matter. Outsiders can’t log in to a bureau and pull your file. The real risk is an enquiry made in your name that you never see because you don’t read the SMS.

How to see who has looked at your report

  1. Download your full report

Use your free annual report from each bureau. How to get it free.

  2. Open the enquiry section

It lists each lender that checked you, with the date and the type of credit asked for. Reading your report, section by section.

  3. Match every line to something you did

A personal loan application last month, a card you applied for in the summer. Anything you can’t place needs a second look.

  4. Dispute what you didn’t authorise

Raise it with the bureau. Disputes must be resolved within 30 days, and if it takes longer you are owed ₹100 for each day of delay. If money was taken, call 1930 or file at cybercrime.gov.in.

When you apply to Omozing

We check your report only after you apply, with your consent, and that check appears as one enquiry. A credit officer then reads the full report rather than stopping at the number. If you are salaried with a take-home of ₹40,000 or more and a score from 600, one application is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Can my employer see my CIBIL report?

An employer can’t pull your report from a bureau the way a lender can. If an employer wants to see it, they would have to ask you to share a copy, and you decide.

Can a lender check my report without my permission?

When you apply, you authorise the check as part of the application. Lenders you already have an account with can also review your file. A check from a lender you never dealt with should be disputed.

Will I know when someone checks my report?

Usually, yes. Bureaus send an SMS or email alert when your report is accessed, and your full report lists lender enquiries with dates.

Can my family or spouse see my credit report?

Not from a bureau. They can see it only if you show it to them. A joint loan does appear on both borrowers’ reports, though.

Does someone looking at my report lower my score?

Only a hard enquiry from a credit application can, and the effect is small and temporary. Your own checks and soft enquiries have no effect.
