Omozing Answers › Credit scores and bureaus

Most “unknown” enquiries turn out to be real. The name on your report is often the lender’s registered company name, not the app or brand you saw. A car dealer, a phone shop offering an EMI, or a card stall at a mall may have sent your details to a lender on your behalf. Before you dispute, rule these out.
If the lender cannot show that you applied or consented, treat the enquiry as unauthorised and move to the right-hand column.
The bureau passes the dispute to the lender, which has 21 days to respond, and the bureau then has 9 days to update your report. If the lender cannot back up the enquiry, it should be removed. If the 30 days pass, the ₹100-a-day compensation rule applies, paid within 5 working days of resolution to the account you name.
| Situation | Can it be removed? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You applied, even if you didn’t take the loan | No, it is accurate | Let it age; space out future applications |
| A dealer or shop applied for you with your details and OK | No, you consented | Ask in future which lender they will send your details to |
| You only checked your own score | Nothing to remove | This is a soft enquiry and doesn’t affect your score |
| A lender pulled your report with no application from you | Yes, it is an error | Dispute with the bureau and complain to the lender |
| Someone applied using your PAN or Aadhaar | Yes, it is fraud | Dispute, report on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, check for accounts |
If the lender and bureau don’t fix it, escalate. Banks, larger NBFCs and credit information companies are covered by the RBI Integrated Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in. See where to complain if no one fixes your report.
Our step-by-step dispute guide covers the forms, the evidence, and the 30-day timeline.
Only if you didn’t authorise it. Enquiries from applications you made are accurate and stay, but their effect on your score fades over time.
Disputes must be resolved within 30 days: 21 days for the lender to respond and 9 for the bureau to update. Late resolution earns ₹100 per day of delay.
Reports often show a lender’s registered company name rather than its app or brand name. Search the name online and check your SMS and email around that date before disputing.
No one can remove accurate enquiries for a fee. Unauthorised ones you can dispute yourself, free.
Not always, but treat it as a warning. Check all four bureaus for new accounts, keep your OTPs private, and watch your access alerts.
