“I earn ₹75,000. How much loan will I get?” is one of the questions we hear most. The honest answer is a calculation, not a multiple, and you can do it yourself in five minutes. This guide is part of our salaried money playbook and puts the maths from FOIR explained into a ready table by salary.
The three-step method lenders use
Some websites quote “10 to 20 times your monthly salary” as a rule of thumb. That shortcut ignores your existing EMIs and the tenure, which are exactly what change the answer most. Use it only as a rough upper bound.
Personal loan amount by salary: the table
The table assumes no existing EMIs, a 36-month tenure and an illustrative interest rate of 16% a year, chosen only to make the arithmetic concrete. It shows the loan that an EMI at a 40% and a 50% FOIR would support.
| Monthly take-home | EMI room at 40% | Loan at 40% | EMI room at 50% | Loan at 50% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹40,000 | ₹16,000 | about ₹4.6 lakh | ₹20,000 | about ₹5.7 lakh |
| ₹50,000 | ₹20,000 | about ₹5.7 lakh | ₹25,000 | about ₹7.1 lakh |
| ₹60,000 | ₹24,000 | about ₹6.8 lakh | ₹30,000 | about ₹8.5 lakh |
| ₹75,000 | ₹30,000 | about ₹8.5 lakh | ₹37,500 | about ₹10.7 lakh |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹40,000 | about ₹11.4 lakh | ₹50,000 | about ₹14.2 lakh |
| ₹1,50,000 | ₹60,000 | about ₹17.1 lakh | ₹75,000 | about ₹21.3 lakh |
| ₹2,00,000 | ₹80,000 | about ₹22.8 lakh | ₹1,00,000 | ₹25 lakh (Omozing maximum) |
Illustrative arithmetic only, not an offer or a sanction. EMI per ₹1 lakh at 16% a year over 36 months is about ₹3,516. Omozing rates start from 11% a year; your actual amount, rate, fees and APR depend on your full profile and are shown in the Key Fact Statement before you sign.
Loan supported at a 50% FOIR, by take-home (36 months, no existing EMIs)
Illustrative 16% a year, 36 months, no existing EMIs, 50% FOIR. At ₹2 lakh take-home the arithmetic gives about ₹28.4 lakh, which is above Omozing’s ₹25 lakh maximum.
Existing EMIs change everything
Take an illustrative profile: a take-home of ₹50,000 and a 50% limit gives ₹25,000 of EMI room. If you already pay ₹10,000 a month on a bike loan and a card EMI, the room falls to ₹15,000, and the loan you can get falls by about 40%.
| Tenure (₹50,000 take-home, 50% FOIR) | No existing EMIs (₹25,000 room) | ₹10,000 existing EMIs (₹15,000 room) |
|---|---|---|
| 12 months | about ₹2.8 lakh | about ₹1.7 lakh |
| 24 months | about ₹5.1 lakh | about ₹3.1 lakh |
| 36 months | about ₹7.1 lakh | about ₹4.3 lakh |
Illustrative 16% a year. A longer tenure lowers the EMI and raises the amount, but you pay more interest in total: ₹5 lakh over 36 months at that rate costs about ₹1.33 lakh in interest.
This is why clearing or consolidating small loans before you apply often matters more than a salary hike. If several of those obligations are short-term app loans, SmartSwitch can replace them with one Omozing EMI so your FOIR and your month both breathe again.
What else decides the final amount
Credit history
A clean repayment record can win you the upper end of a lender’s range; recent late payments usually mean a smaller first loan. Omozing considers scores from 600, see personal loan with a low CIBIL score.
Job stability
Time with your current employer and in your career, and how steady your salary credits are.
Your bank statement
Bounced EMIs, frequent app-loan credits or a month-end zero balance can reduce the offer. See what lenders see in your salary account.
Lender limits
Every lender has a minimum and maximum. Omozing lends up to ₹25 lakh for 3–36 months to salaried people with a take-home of ₹40,000+.
Comparing offers for the same amount
Once you know roughly what your salary supports, compare offers on total cost, not just the EMI. Two loans of ₹5 lakh can have similar EMIs but very different processing fees, insurance add-ons and foreclosure terms. Under the RBI’s digital lending rules, a regulated lender must give you a Key Fact Statement with the annual percentage rate (APR) and every fee before you sign, so put the KFS documents side by side and compare the APR and the total amount payable. Also check how interest is calculated; a flat rate looks lower than a reducing-balance rate for the same EMI.
How much should you borrow?
The maximum a lender will approve is not the amount you should take. Ask three questions before you accept:
- Does the EMI still leave room to save? If total EMIs leave you with nothing for an emergency fund, the loan is too big.
- Could you pay it through a two-month salary delay? A small buffer in savings is the best insurance against a missed EMI.
- Is the purpose worth the interest? A medical bill, a rent deposit or clearing costly debt usually is; a sale purchase often isn’t.
Borrow to the size of the need, not the size of the offer.
If your salary is below ₹40,000, read personal loans with a low salary for options, including adding a co-applicant.

Frequently asked questions
How much personal loan can I get on a ₹50,000 salary?
With no existing EMIs and a 50% FOIR limit, a ₹50,000 take-home supports an EMI of about ₹25,000, which is roughly ₹7.1 lakh over 36 months at an illustrative 16% a year. Existing EMIs, a shorter tenure or a lower limit reduce it.
How much personal loan can I get on a ₹1 lakh salary?
At a 50% FOIR with no other EMIs, about ₹14.2 lakh over 36 months at an illustrative 16% a year; at 40% FOIR, about ₹11.4 lakh. Your credit profile and the lender’s policy decide the final amount.
Do lenders use gross salary or net salary?
Net salary, meaning what is credited to your bank account after PF, professional tax and TDS. That is the amount that pays the EMI.
Does a longer tenure increase my loan amount?
Yes, because the same EMI supports a bigger principal over more months. You pay more interest overall, so choose the shortest tenure whose EMI you can manage comfortably.
Can a co-applicant increase my loan amount?
Yes. A co-applicant’s income is added to yours, which raises the EMI room. Omozing accepts co-applicants such as a spouse, family member or friend.
What is the minimum salary for an Omozing personal loan?
Omozing lends to salaried people with a take-home of ₹40,000 or more a month and a credit score from 600.
