Start the new year with one EMI, not five app loans

Start the New Year With One EMI: Replacing Many App Loans Before Diwali

Table of Contents

In short: If three or four loan apps are taking a bite out of every salary, the most valuable thing you can do before Diwali is replace them with one EMI that actually ends. In our illustration, ₹75,000 spread across three apps costs about ₹30,000 a month just to roll over, while a single 12-month EMI is about ₹7,750. Omozing SmartSwitch is built for this: one loan into your own account, you close each app loan within about 7 days, and you repay one EMI. Start with the list below; it takes ten minutes.

Day 9 of our Diwali 2026 series. Earlier this week we looked at using a Diwali bonus to clear costly app loans and going home for Diwali without new app loans. Today is for anyone who is already juggling several apps and wants to walk into the new year with one simple repayment instead of five due dates.

Why sort it out before Diwali

Festive weeks are when app-loan stacks grow fastest. Travel, gifts and family expenses arrive together, the salary looks smaller than ever, and the easiest money is one tap away. Each new app adds another short due date, another fee and another rollover. Fixing the stack before the spending peak means this Diwali’s expenses are not added on top of last month’s.

7–30 daysis the typical tenure of an app loan, so a stack of three or four means a due date almost every week.

The maths: many apps vs one EMI

Here is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. Rohan earns a take-home salary of ₹52,000. Over the year he has picked up three app loans totalling ₹75,000. Each month he pays a 10% fee to roll each loan over plus about 1% a day in interest, roughly ₹7,500 in fees and ₹22,500 in interest. That is ₹30,000 a month, and he still owes ₹75,000.

Total paid over a year: rolling over three app loans vs one 12-month EMI

Illustrative. Apps: ₹75,000 rolled over monthly at a 10% fee per rollover plus 1% a day (₹30,000 a month). One EMI: ₹75,000 over 12 months at an assumed 2% a month flat plus a 4% fee (₹3,000), giving an EMI of about ₹7,750. These assumptions are for illustration only and are not a quoted SmartSwitch rate; your actual terms are in the Key Fact Statement.

After 12 months the app route has cost about ₹3.6 lakh and Rohan still owes ₹75,000. The single-EMI route has cost about ₹93,000 plus the ₹3,000 fee, and the debt is gone. The difference, roughly ₹3.4 lakh kept over a year, is money that can go to rent, family, savings and, yes, Diwali.

The cheapest Diwali gift you can give yourself is one due date instead of five.

How SmartSwitch works

List your apps: lender, amount, due date and fee for each.
Apply once with your salary-account statement and latest salary slip.
If approved, the loan is paid into your own bank account.
Close each app loan within about 7 days and share the NOCs.
Repay one EMI on a date that suits your salary.

The money comes to you, not to the apps, so you stay in control and can confirm each closure yourself. The NOCs matter: they prove each loan is closed, and they help your credit report reflect it. You can estimate your own numbers with the SmartSwitch calculator.

Your pre-Diwali plan, step by step

  1. Tonight: write the list

Open every lending app and note the outstanding amount, due date and rollover fee. Add any card balances you only pay the minimum on. Seeing the full figure is uncomfortable, and it is the start of fixing it.

  2. Stop the next rotation

From today, don’t take a new app loan to repay an old one. That one rule stops the stack growing.

  3. Check the numbers

Use the calculator to compare what the apps cost each month with one EMI.

  4. Apply once

One considered application is better for your credit report than several in a week.

  5. Close and collect NOCs

If approved, repay each app within about 7 days and save every NOC and closure email.

  6. Build a small buffer

Even ₹1,000 a month set aside means the next surprise does not send you back to an app.

Who SmartSwitch suits

A good fit if you…

  • Are salaried, with take-home of ₹40,000 a month or more.
  • Have a credit score from 600, even if app loans have dented it.
  • Carry two or more short-term app loans you keep rolling over.
  • Are ready to stop taking new app loans.

Not the right tool if…

  • You plan to keep the apps open “just in case”.
  • You need the money for new spending rather than replacing debt.
  • You are self-employed (Omozing currently lends to salaried people).

If your score is lower or you have had a recent default, our guides on personal loans with a CIBIL score from 600 and getting out of a debt trap set out your options. A co-applicant, such as a spouse or family member, can also strengthen your application.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine several loan-app loans into one EMI?

Yes. Omozing SmartSwitch gives eligible salaried borrowers one loan, paid into their own bank account, to close several short-term app loans. You then repay one EMI with a fixed end date.

Who pays off the app loans?

You do. The money is credited to your own account, you close each app loan within about 7 days, and you share the NOCs with us.

What does SmartSwitch cost?

Your rate, fees and APR depend on your profile and are shown in the Key Fact Statement before you sign. The figures in this article are an illustration, not a quoted price.

Will consolidating app loans help my CIBIL score?

Closing several small loans and paying one EMI on time can help your record over the following months, especially as closures are reported. We cannot promise a specific score change.

Can I apply if my score has dropped because of app loans?

Omozing considers salaried applicants with a credit score from 600 and a take-home salary of ₹40,000 a month or more. A credit officer reads your full report rather than relying only on the number.

Can I keep the apps for emergencies after consolidating?

We strongly suggest you don’t. Taking new app loans after consolidating rebuilds the same stack. A small monthly emergency fund is the safer backup.
