Omozing Answers › Credit scores and bureaus

An enquiry is recorded the moment a lender pulls your report, and the bureau may send you an SMS or email alert when it happens. From then on, two things work in your favour: time, and every on-time payment you add. The newer an enquiry is, the more a lender’s eye goes to it. As it ages, it says less and less about you.
Illustrative shapes only, not drawn to a points scale. Real effects depend on your whole report, and each bureau weighs enquiries in its own way.
Scoring models judge an enquiry against everything else they know about you. That is why two people can apply for the same loan on the same day and see different movements.
| Your situation | Effect of one new enquiry | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Long history, all on time, few recent applications | Usually barely noticeable | Years of evidence outweigh one new data point |
| Thin file: one card or one loan | Can be more noticeable | With little history, each new item carries more weight |
| Already several enquiries this month | Adds to a pattern | A cluster reads as being turned down, or as borrowing from many places at once |
| Enquiry, then a new loan you pay on time | The dip is soon outweighed | A well-run new account builds history |
| Enquiry, then a new loan you pay late | The late payment does the real damage | Missed payments weigh far more than any enquiry |
The score is only a summary. A credit officer reading your full report sees a list of recent enquiries with dates and the type of credit applied for. Three things stand out:
Check the lender’s published minimum score, salary and documents. Apply only where you clearly fit, so the enquiry is likely to end in a yes.
If you need a card and a loan, don’t apply for both in the same week. One application at a time, with a decision in between.
A pre-approved offer screened by an existing lender is a soft enquiry. Pressing submit on an application usually triggers a hard one. Soft vs hard enquiries.
If you have had a burst of applications, pay everything on time for a few months before applying for something important.
At Omozing, our eligibility is published so you can check it first: salaried, take-home of ₹40,000 or more, score from 600. A credit officer reads your full report, including the enquiry section, in context rather than judging you on a single number.
See how we assess scores from 600 before you press submit anywhere.
There is no fixed number. One hard enquiry usually causes a small, temporary dip, and how much depends on the rest of your report.
Its effect fades over the following months, faster if you keep every payment on time. A cluster of enquiries takes longer to fade than a single one.
Yes. The enquiry is recorded when the lender pulls your report, whatever the decision. The rejection itself is not recorded.
Both are hard enquiries when you apply. What matters most is how many you make in a short period, not the product type.
No. An enquiry you made is accurate information and stays as it is. Only an enquiry you didn’t make can be disputed and corrected, free of charge.
