Omozing Personal Loan · For medical expenses
Health insurance should always be your first line of defence. When it does not cover everything, or does not cover you at all, a personal loan with a fixed EMI can pay the gap without forcing you to sell assets or borrow from expensive apps.
A “medical loan” in India is usually one of two things: a loan tied to a particular hospital or clinic (sometimes sold as “no-cost EMI” on planned procedures), or an ordinary personal loan used for health costs. Omozing offers the second. It is our standard unsecured personal loan with the same limits and assessment as any other, and no separate “medical” rate.
That has a practical advantage. Because the money is disbursed to your own bank account, you are not tied to one hospital’s financing partner. You can use it for the hospital deposit, the part of a bill your insurer did not pay, post-discharge medicines, physiotherapy, diagnostic tests, or the travel and stay costs of being near a patient in another city.
Before you borrow, make sure you have used every rupee of cover you are entitled to. Many people borrow more than they need because they have not checked what their policy, or their employer’s group policy, will pay.
Show your health card or policy number at the hospital’s insurance (TPA) desk on admission. Under IRDAI’s 2024 master circular on health insurance, insurers are expected to decide on cashless requests within one hour and on final discharge authorisation within three hours of the hospital’s request.
Your employer’s group cover, a personal or family floater, a top-up or super top-up, and a parent’s own policy can all apply. Our guide to types of health insurance plans explains how they stack.
Co-payments, room-rent limits that reduce other charges proportionately, non-payable consumables, waiting periods for pre-existing conditions and sub-limits on specific procedures are the usual gaps. Ask the TPA desk for the estimated non-payable amount in writing.
The difference between the hospital’s estimate and the insurer’s expected payment is the number to plan a loan around, plus any reimbursement you will wait weeks for.
If you have no health cover at all, that is the first thing to fix once the immediate crisis is over. See ways to cut your health insurance premium and multi-year health policies.
The most recent large government survey of health spending, the National Sample Survey’s 75th round (July 2017 to June 2018), found that households paid far more out of their own pockets in private hospitals than in public ones.
Source: NSS 75th round, Household Social Consumption in India: Health (2017–18), released in 2020; checked October 2026. These are averages of out-of-pocket spending per case, eight years old; medical costs have risen since, and a major surgery or ICU stay costs many times more.
Averages hide a lot. A short stay for an infection is very different from a cardiac procedure, a joint replacement, cancer treatment or a long ICU admission, which can run into several lakh rupees at a private hospital. The table below is illustrative, to help you think about the shape of a bill rather than its exact size.
| Cost component (illustrative) | Usually covered by insurance? | Often left for you to pay |
|---|---|---|
| Admission deposit | Not needed if cashless is approved | Full deposit if you are uninsured or cashless is declined |
| Room, nursing, doctor fees | Yes, within room-rent limits | Proportionate deductions if you choose a costlier room |
| Procedure and implants | Yes, subject to sub-limits | The amount above a sub-limit |
| Consumables (gloves, kits, etc.) | Often excluded | Commonly a noticeable share of the bill |
| Pre- and post-hospitalisation | For a set number of days | Medicines, therapy and tests beyond that window |
| Travel, stay, attendant costs | Usually no | All of it |
Salaried people with take-home pay of ₹40,000 or more, a credit score of 600 or more, and a bill that insurance and savings do not fully cover, for themselves, a spouse, children or parents.
Procedures that insurance excludes or limits, such as some dental work, fertility treatment, vision correction or a second opinion abroad, where you know the cost in advance and want fixed EMIs.
If the treatment will last years (for example ongoing dialysis or long cancer care), a single loan may not be enough. Speak to the hospital’s social worker about government schemes and trusts first, and borrow in stages.
Use the hospital’s written estimate, subtract the insurer’s expected payment and your savings, and add a modest buffer for medicines and follow-up visits. If you are waiting for a reimbursement claim, you can borrow for a shorter tenure and part-prepay when the claim is settled, subject to the foreclosure terms in your agreement.
Keep all your EMIs, including the new one, comfortably below half of your take-home pay. Illness often comes with lost workdays, so leave yourself room.
| Amount | 12 months | 24 months | 36 months | Total interest over 24 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1 lakh | ₹8,838 | ₹4,661 | ₹3,274 | ₹11,859 |
| ₹2 lakh | ₹17,676 | ₹9,322 | ₹6,548 | ₹23,718 |
| ₹3 lakh | ₹26,514 | ₹13,982 | ₹9,822 | ₹35,576 |
| ₹5 lakh | ₹44,191 | ₹23,304 | ₹16,369 | ₹59,294 |
| ₹10 lakh | ₹88,382 | ₹46,608 | ₹32,739 | ₹1,18,588 |
Illustrative reducing-balance EMIs at 11% a year, our starting rate, before the processing fee (3%–7% + GST). Your actual rate depends on your credit profile and is shown in your Key Fact Statement. Use the EMI calculator for other amounts.
You do not need to submit medical records to Omozing. Keep the hospital estimate for your own planning.
If the patient is a parent or spouse and your own salary alone is not enough, a family member can join as a co-applicant. If your score is below 750, see how we assess scores from 600.
Keep your phone reachable for the verification call, especially when you are at the hospital. Complete documents and a quick call are what keep an urgent application moving; we do not promise a fixed disbursal time.
Apply for the amount your insurance does not cover. You will see the exact rate, fees and EMI in your Key Fact Statement before you sign, and Omozing never asks for an upfront fee.
| Option | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Cashless health insurance | Any covered hospitalisation at a network hospital | Gaps from co-pay, sub-limits and exclusions |
| Reimbursement claim | Non-network hospitals | You pay first and wait for settlement |
| Government schemes and hospital trusts | Eligible families; ask the hospital’s social worker | Eligibility rules and paperwork |
| Savings or emergency fund | Small and mid-sized bills | Rebuild it afterwards |
| Hospital “no-cost EMI” partner | Planned procedures at that hospital | Check whether a processing fee or discount loss makes it cost something |
| Credit card | Bills you can clear within the interest-free period | Revolving card interest is usually far higher than a personal loan |
| Gold loan | Short-term needs if you hold gold | Gold at risk if you miss payments |
| Unsecured personal loan | Larger gaps repaid over 1 to 3 years | Interest and processing fee; compare APRs |
