12 Ways to Get a Business Loan With a Low CIBIL Score or Bad Credit

Table of Contents

In short: A low CIBIL score makes an unsecured business loan from a bank hard, but not impossible to get funding. Your best routes are the ones where the lender relies on something other than your score: collateral (gold, property, deposits, securities), your business’s own cash flow and invoices, or your existing banking relationship. Fix report errors and clear small overdues first, borrow only what your cash flow can repay, and never pay a fee to anyone promising a loan “without CIBIL check”.

Why a low CIBIL score blocks business loans

For a small business, a proprietorship or a young private company, lenders look closely at the owner’s personal CIBIL score, not just the business. In a small firm, the owner and the business are financially intertwined, so how you have handled your own card dues and EMIs is the lender’s best predictor of how the business will handle its loan.

Registered companies and LLPs also have a commercial credit report and, at CIBIL, a “CIBIL Rank” for the entity. A weak promoter score combined with a thin company history is the most common reason small business loan applications are declined. Our guides to the credit score you need for a business loan and raising your company’s credit score go deeper.

The good news: business lending has more ways around a score than personal lending, because a business has assets, receivables and transaction records a lender can lean on instead.

First, do these three things

  • Pull your report and dispute errors. Wrong overdues and accounts you closed still shown as open are common. Get your report free from each bureau and raise a CIBIL dispute for anything wrong.
  • Clear small overdues. A ₹3,000 card due or a forgotten app loan can sink a ₹10 lakh application. Pay it and ask for a closure letter.
  • Prepare clean records. 12 months of business bank statements, GST returns, ITRs and a simple cash-flow summary. When your score is weak, documents do the persuading.

12 ways to get a business loan with a low CIBIL score

Routes that use collateral

  1. Secured business loan

Pledge property, machinery or other business assets. Because the lender can recover from the asset, it can accept a weaker score. Rates are usually lower than unsecured loans. The risk is real, though: default and you can lose the asset.

  2. Gold loan

Banks and NBFCs lend against gold jewellery with little reliance on your score, often within a day. Good for short, urgent working-capital needs. Watch the loan-to-value and the auction terms if you miss payments.

  3. Loan against fixed deposits or securities

An overdraft against your FD, mutual funds or shares is among the cheapest and fastest options, and the score barely matters because the security is liquid.

Routes that use your business’s cash flow

  1. Invoice discounting

If you sell to larger companies on credit, you can get paid early against approved invoices. On the RBI-authorised TReDS platforms, the buyer’s credit quality matters more than yours. Read types of business loans for how this differs from a term loan.

  2. Revenue-based or merchant cash advance

Some lenders fund against your card, UPI or marketplace sales and take repayment as a share of daily collections. Fast and score-light, but often expensive: compare the effective annual cost before you sign.

  3. GST or banking-surrogate loans

Some lenders size a loan on your GST turnover or bank credits rather than on profits alone. A steady GST filing record can offset a weaker score. See GST surrogate business loans.

  4. Overdraft or cash credit from your bank

The bank that sees your current account every day has data no score captures. A long, healthy account history can earn a limit even when your score is mediocre.

Routes through relationships and schemes

  1. Ask your existing lender

If you have repaid a previous loan to a bank or NBFC on time, a top-up or a fresh loan from them is often easier than a new lender, because they know your real repayment behaviour.

  2. MUDRA loans

Under the PM MUDRA Yojana, banks, NBFCs and MFIs give collateral-free loans to micro and small non-farm businesses in categories called Shishu (up to ₹50,000), Kishore (₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh) and Tarun (₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh). Lenders still check credit, but a modest score with a viable business can qualify.

  3. NBFCs focused on small business

Many NBFCs build their own assessment on bank statements, GST data and site visits and accept scores banks would decline, usually at a higher rate. Confirm the lender is RBI-registered.

  4. Business credit card

A secured business card against an FD builds a business credit history while giving you a short interest-free cycle for purchases. Pay in full each month or it becomes very expensive.

  5. Peer-to-peer lending

RBI-registered P2P platforms (NBFC-P2P) match borrowers with individual lenders. Approval criteria and rates vary widely; read the platform’s fee schedule carefully.

General guidance. Speed and criteria vary by lender and by how complete your documents are.

A simple decision path

Have gold, FDs or securities? Borrow against them first. It is the cheapest, fastest route.
Sell on credit to bigger firms? Discount invoices so their credit carries the loan.
Steady GST filings and bank credits? Try your own bank’s overdraft, then GST-surrogate lenders.
Micro business with a clear plan? Apply for MUDRA at your bank.
None of the above? Repair the score for 3 to 6 months, then apply.

Red flags to avoid

“No CIBIL check” promises

Every regulated lender checks credit. A promise of a large loan with no checks, especially with an upfront “file charge”, is a classic scam.

Fees before approval

Legitimate lenders deduct processing fees from the loan or charge after sanction, as stated in the Key Fact Statement. Never pay a stranger to “release” a loan.

Unregistered lenders

Check that any NBFC is RBI-registered and that its app is linked to a named bank or NBFC. Our guide on spotting fake loan apps lists warning signs.

Stacking short-term loans

Using several high-cost app loans to fund a business usually ends in a spiral. If you are already in one, see SmartSwitch for salaried borrowers.

Improve the score while you borrow

Whichever route you take, pay every instalment on time and keep card balances well below the limit. Six to twelve months of clean repayment on a secured or smaller loan is often the fastest way to qualify for a cheaper unsecured business loan later. No one can promise a specific score increase, but a structured plan helps: our Credit Score Booster programme shows you what to fix first.

A note on what we do: Omozing currently lends only to salaried individuals through personal loans, not business loans. If you want to compare business loan offers from several lenders, FundsTiger, our sister company, runs a loan marketplace.

Our Credit Score Booster programme helps you find and fix what is pulling your score down, so your next application starts from a stronger place.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a business loan with a bad CIBIL score?

Yes, mainly through secured routes (gold, property, FDs), cash-flow routes (invoice discounting, GST-surrogate loans) or lenders you already bank with. Unsecured bank loans are hard with a low score.

What CIBIL score is needed for a business loan?

Many banks prefer a promoter score of 700 to 750 or more for unsecured business loans. Secured and cash-flow-based options can work with lower scores.

Does my personal CIBIL score affect my business loan?

Yes. For proprietorships, partnerships and small companies, lenders check the owners’ personal scores alongside the business’s own credit report.

Can I get a MUDRA loan with a low CIBIL score?

MUDRA loans are collateral-free, but lenders still check your credit. A modest score with a clear, viable business plan and no recent defaults can qualify; serious recent defaults usually cannot.

Is a loan without a CIBIL check genuine?

Regulated lenders check credit before lending. Offers of a business loan with no checks, especially if they ask for an upfront fee, are a common fraud pattern. Report fraud on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

Does Omozing give business loans?

No. Omozing currently offers personal loans to salaried individuals only. FundsTiger, our sister company, runs a loan marketplace where business borrowers can compare lenders.

Omozing is the digital lending brand of Aparampaar Finance Private Limited, an RBI-registered non-deposit-taking NBFC. Omozing lends to salaried individuals and does not offer business loans. FundsTiger is our sister company. See our regulatory disclosures and grievance redressal process.
