Can someone remove negative entries from my report for a fee?

No. If a negative entry is accurate, such as a late EMI you really missed or a loan you settled, no agent, app or “consultant” can remove it, whatever they charge. Only lenders report data to the bureaus, and bureaus correct only information that is wrong. If an entry is wrong, you can get it fixed yourself, free, through the bureau’s dispute process, which must be resolved within 30 days. Anyone promising to “delete” true history is either misleading you or planning to take your money.

Accurate or wrong: the only question that matters

What can happen to a negative entry

A negative entry on your report It is accurate • It stays. No one can delete it, for any fee • Its weight fades as it ages • Paying dues can update the status It is wrong • Not yours, already paid, or the wrong status or amount • Dispute it with the bureau, free • Must be resolved within 30 days

A paid agent cannot change either branch. For accurate entries there is nothing to remove; for wrong ones, the dispute you can file yourself is the same process an agent would use.

What paid “credit fixers” claim, and what is true

The claimThe reality
“We have contacts at CIBIL and can delete your default.”Bureaus record what lenders report. Accurate data isn’t deleted on request, for anyone.
“Pay us and your score will be 750 in 30 days.”No one can promise a score. It moves only as your reported data changes.
“We’ll dispute everything until it disappears.”Disputing accurate entries doesn’t remove them. The lender confirms the data and it stays.
“Changing ‘settled’ to ‘closed’ needs our special service.”The lender updates the status if you pay the shortfall. You can ask them directly. How it works.
“Share your OTP and bureau login so we can fix it.”Never share OTPs or passwords. That is how fraudsters take over accounts.
What most people get wrong: they believe the score belongs to the bureau and can be “negotiated”. Your score is calculated from what lenders report about you. Change what is reported, by fixing errors and adding on-time payments, and the score follows. There is no back door.

Red flags that you are dealing with a scam

If you have been cheated, report it on the cybercrime helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in. You can also report an entity collecting money from the public without authorisation on the RBI Sachet portal. Remember that genuine lenders don’t charge you before approval; Omozing never asks for upfront fees.

What you can do yourself, for free

  1. Get your full report from each bureau

You are entitled to one free full report per bureau per calendar year from CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark. How to get it.

  2. Dispute anything that is wrong

Raise it with the bureau and attach proof. If it isn’t resolved within 30 days, you are owed ₹100 for each day of delay. Step-by-step dispute guide.

  3. Clean up what is accurate

Pay overdue amounts, get no-dues certificates, and ask lenders to update settled accounts after you pay the shortfall.

  4. Add clean months

Pay every EMI and card on time and keep card use low. This is the only thing that improves a report with accurate negatives on it. How long a rebuild takes.

If you want guidance through these steps, our Credit Score Booster offers a structured review of your report and a plan. It doesn’t promise a score and doesn’t claim to remove accurate entries.

Frequently asked questions

Can a credit repair company remove a settled account from my report?

No. A settled account is accurate information and stays visible for years. Paying the shortfall and asking the lender to update the status to closed is the legitimate way to improve it.

Is it legal to pay someone to help with my credit report?

Paying for advice or help with paperwork is your choice, but no one can remove accurate data. Be wary of anyone who promises deletion or a specific score.

How much does it cost to dispute an error with CIBIL?

Nothing. Disputing an error with a credit bureau is free, and it must be resolved within 30 days.

What if my dispute is rejected?

If the lender confirms the data is accurate, it stays. If you believe it is wrong and the lender or bureau hasn’t resolved your complaint, you can escalate to the RBI Integrated Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.

I already paid an agent. What should I do?

Stop further payments, don’t share any OTPs or passwords, and report it on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in if you think you were cheated. Then check your report yourself.
