Being paid in cash says nothing bad about you. The problem is proof: a lender cannot easily confirm how much you earn, from whom, and how regularly.
| Situation | How lenders typically see it |
|---|---|
| Whole salary by bank transfer | The easiest to verify: employer name, amount and date on every credit. |
| Part bank transfer, part cash | Usually only the bank-credited part is counted as income. |
| Cash, then deposited by you | A cash deposit doesn’t show who paid it, so it is generally not treated as salary. |
| Cash with a handwritten slip | Hard to verify on its own, and most digital lenders won’t rely on it. |
| Salary just moved to the bank | Counts, but a lender may want several months of credits before it is confident. |
Imran is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. He supervises a warehouse for a small distributor and earns ₹45,000 a month: ₹30,000 is transferred to his bank account and ₹15,000 is handed over in cash. He has no EMIs.
Bars drawn to scale. An illustrative profile, not a real customer.
On paper Imran earns above Omozing’s ₹40,000 minimum. On the evidence a lender can verify, he earns ₹30,000, which is below it. The cash part also shrinks what any lender could offer. At an example 50% FOIR, 14% a year and 36 months:
Example rate and FOIR, not an offer. Omozing’s rates start from 11% a year.
The same logic explains why lenders work from take-home pay as credited, not gross salary: they size loans on money they can see arriving.
When it gets harder:
What helps:
Many small employers will, once asked. Request the full salary, not just part of it, with a payslip each month.
Let the salary land in the same account every month so the statement tells one clear story.
Omozing asks for your last 6 months’ salary-account statement, so a steady run of credits matters.
Pay any card or small loan on time. Building a score with little history.
If someone in the family is paid by bank transfer, they may be the right main applicant.
A lender has to be satisfied that you can repay before it lends, and income it can verify is the backbone of that judgement. A salary credit from an employer, month after month, is strong evidence; a cash deposit is not, because it could come from anywhere, including another loan. Lenders also need the employer’s identity to judge stability. That is why bank-credited salary is standard across most of the industry, not a quirk of one lender.
We lend only to salaried individuals, with a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more a month and a credit score from 600. We assess salary through your salary-account bank statement, so your salary must be credited to a bank account. You need your last 6 months’ salary-account bank statement, your latest salary slip, and PAN and Aadhaar for KYC. Take-home ₹40,000 or more and a credit score from 600: loans up to ₹25 lakh over 3 to 36 months, rates from 11% a year.
Not for now. We assess salary through your salary-account bank statement, so your salary must be credited to a bank account.
It may support an application with some lenders, but most digital lenders rely on the bank statement to verify income.
Usually only the part credited to your bank account by your employer. Plan your loan on that figure.
It differs by lender. Omozing asks for a 6-month salary-account statement, so a few months of regular credits make the strongest application.
A co-applicant’s credited income may strengthen an application, but you still need verifiable income of your own to be the main applicant with most lenders.
