Where 600 sits on the 300–900 scale
Credit scores from TransUnion CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark run from 300 to 900. A 600 is below what most banks treat as comfortable, but it is far from the bottom. It usually means one of three things: a few late payments in the past, very high credit card usage, or a short history with one blemish in it.
A 600 score in context
Bands are a general guide to how lenders tend to react, not official bureau categories. Each lender sets its own policy.
The number matters less than the story behind it. A 600 caused by one card at 95% usage is very different from a 600 caused by a loan written off last year. Good lenders look at the story.
Can you get a loan with 600? Answer by loan type
| Loan type | Realistic answer at 600 | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Gold loan | Yes. The gold secures the loan; your score matters little. | Repay on time or you risk the gold. |
| Loan against fixed deposit | Yes. Usually a large share of the FD value. | Your own FD with the same bank. |
| Secured credit card | Yes. Issued against an FD. | A good way to rebuild history. |
| Two-wheeler or consumer durable loan | Often. The asset and a down payment reduce the lender’s risk. | A bigger down payment. |
| Unsecured personal loan | Possible, selectively. Many banks prefer a higher score; some NBFCs, including Omozing, consider 600 and above. | Stable salary, clean recent months, a co-applicant. |
| Car loan | Possible. Expect a higher rate or a larger down payment. | Co-applicant, lower loan-to-value. |
| Home loan | Possible but harder. Some lenders will, often at a higher rate. | A co-borrower with a strong score. |
| Regular credit card | Unlikely for now. | Start with a secured card. |
A general guide based on how these products are typically underwritten. Approval always depends on the lender’s own assessment.
What lenders check after they see 600
At 600, the decision is rarely automatic. A lender willing to consider you will look at the detail:
- Recent behaviour. Twelve clean months after an old delay is a strong signal that the problem is behind you.
- No active defaults. An account overdue today or written off recently is the most common reason for a no.
- Income and stability. Regular salary credits in a bank account and some time with your employer.
- Existing obligations. If current EMIs already take half your take-home pay, a new loan is hard to justify for any score.
- Recent enquiries. Many applications in a few weeks look like credit hunger.
An illustrative profile
An illustrative profile, not a real customer. Two years ago, this salaried borrower missed three credit card payments during a job change. The card has since been paid off and every EMI for the last 14 months has been on time. An automated system at a bank sees 612 and declines. A credit officer reading the full report sees a past problem that has been fixed, a stable salary and room in the budget, and can make a reasoned offer. That difference is exactly why we built our assessment the way we did.
How to improve your chances before you apply
Check your report, not just your score
You are entitled to a free full report from each bureau once a calendar year. Look for mistakes such as closed loans showing as open. Fix them through a CIBIL dispute.
Clear anything overdue
Even a small overdue amount on an old card can sink an application. Pay it and get a no-dues letter.
Bring card usage under 30%
Pay down balances before the statement date. This is one of the quickest ways to lift a score. More in our 9 ways to improve your CIBIL score.
Add a co-applicant
A spouse or family member with a good record and income strengthens the file. See how co-applicants help.
Apply to one or two lenders, not ten
Choose lenders whose criteria you meet. Every rejection adds an enquiry.
Be careful who says yes
A 600 score attracts aggressive offers. Walk away from anyone who promises guaranteed approval, asks for a fee before approval, or won’t name the RBI-registered bank or NBFC behind the loan. Under RBI’s digital lending rules, you should receive a Key Fact Statement showing the APR before you sign, and the money should come straight from the lender to your account. Short seven-day app loans can look like the only door open, but they are among the most expensive credit available. Read how to spot a fake loan app.
How Omozing looks at a 600 score
Omozing, the digital lending brand of RBI-registered NBFC Aparampaar Finance, lends to salaried people across India. Our personal loans go up to ₹25 lakh for 3 to 36 months, with rates starting from 11% a year and a processing fee of 3% to 7% plus GST. You need a credit score from 600, a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more, and just two documents: six months of salary-account bank statements and your latest salary slip. A credit officer reads your full report, and co-applicants are welcome. The exact rate, fees and APR appear in your Key Fact Statement before you sign, and we never ask for a fee before approval.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 600 CIBIL score good or bad?
It is below average. Many banks prefer higher scores for unsecured loans, but 600 is far from the bottom of the 300 to 900 scale, and some lenders will consider you if your recent repayment record and income are solid.
Can I get a personal loan with a 600 CIBIL score?
It is possible with lenders that look beyond the score. Omozing considers salaried applicants with a score from 600 and a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more. Approval depends on your full report, income and existing obligations.
What is the easiest loan to get with a 600 score?
Secured loans such as a gold loan or a loan against a fixed deposit are the easiest, because the lender relies on the security rather than your score.
Will interest rates be higher at 600?
Usually, yes. Lenders price for risk, so a lower score generally means a higher rate than a 750 borrower would get. Compare the APR in each lender’s Key Fact Statement, not just the headline rate.
Can I get a loan with a score below 600?
Unsecured loans become very difficult below 600. Secured options, a strong co-applicant, or a few months of repair to cross 600 are the realistic routes.
How fast can I move from 600 to 650?
If the score is low mainly because of high card usage or a reporting error, a couple of reporting cycles can make a visible difference. If it is due to recent defaults, it usually takes many months of on-time payments.
