Can I get a personal loan if my salary is paid in cash?

In short: It is difficult with most lenders, and not possible with Omozing for now. Lenders need to verify your income, and the standard proof is your salary arriving in a bank account from your employer every month. Omozing assesses salary through your salary-account bank statement, so your salary must be credited to a bank account. The practical route is to ask your employer to pay by bank transfer and build a record of regular credits before you apply.

What changes the answer

Being paid in cash says nothing bad about you. The problem is proof: a lender cannot easily confirm how much you earn, from whom, and how regularly.

SituationHow lenders typically see it
Whole salary by bank transferThe easiest to verify: employer name, amount and date on every credit.
Part bank transfer, part cashUsually only the bank-credited part is counted as income.
Cash, then deposited by youA cash deposit doesn’t show who paid it, so it is generally not treated as salary.
Cash with a handwritten slipHard to verify on its own, and most digital lenders won’t rely on it.
Salary just moved to the bankCounts, but a lender may want several months of credits before it is confident.

An example

Imran is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. He supervises a warehouse for a small distributor and earns ₹45,000 a month: ₹30,000 is transferred to his bank account and ₹15,000 is handed over in cash. He has no EMIs.

What Imran earns, and what his bank statement can prove

₹30,000 bank ₹15,000 cash ₹45,000 earned ₹30,000 ₹30,000 proven Omozing minimum: ₹40,000 take-home What he earns What the statement shows

Bars drawn to scale. An illustrative profile, not a real customer.

On paper Imran earns above Omozing’s ₹40,000 minimum. On the evidence a lender can verify, he earns ₹30,000, which is below it. The cash part also shrinks what any lender could offer. At an example 50% FOIR, 14% a year and 36 months:

≈ ₹4.39 lakhLoan supported by the ₹30,000 bank credit alone
≈ ₹6.58 lakhLoan the full ₹45,000 would support if it were all credited
≈ ₹2.19 lakhThe difference the cash portion costs him in eligibility

Example rate and FOIR, not an offer. Omozing’s rates start from 11% a year.

The same logic explains why lenders work from take-home pay as credited, not gross salary: they size loans on money they can see arriving.

When it gets harder, and what helps

When it gets harder:

What helps:

  1. Ask your employer to pay by bank transfer

Many small employers will, once asked. Request the full salary, not just part of it, with a payslip each month.

  2. Use one account for salary

Let the salary land in the same account every month so the statement tells one clear story.

  3. Build a few months of regular credits

Omozing asks for your last 6 months’ salary-account statement, so a steady run of credits matters.

  4. Look after your credit report meanwhile

Pay any card or small loan on time. Building a score with little history.

  5. Or apply with a salaried family member

If someone in the family is paid by bank transfer, they may be the right main applicant.

How lenders look at it

A lender has to be satisfied that you can repay before it lends, and income it can verify is the backbone of that judgement. A salary credit from an employer, month after month, is strong evidence; a cash deposit is not, because it could come from anywhere, including another loan. Lenders also need the employer’s identity to judge stability. That is why bank-credited salary is standard across most of the industry, not a quirk of one lender.

At Omozing

We lend only to salaried individuals, with a take-home salary of ₹40,000 or more a month and a credit score from 600. We assess salary through your salary-account bank statement, so your salary must be credited to a bank account. You need your last 6 months’ salary-account bank statement, your latest salary slip, and PAN and Aadhaar for KYC. What most people get wrong: they think depositing their cash salary into the bank each month makes it “salary in the account”. A lender sees a cash deposit, not an employer credit. It is the employer’s transfer that makes income verifiable.

Salary now credited to your bank?

Take-home ₹40,000 or more and a credit score from 600: loans up to ₹25 lakh over 3 to 36 months, rates from 11% a year.

Frequently asked questions

Does Omozing lend if my salary is paid in cash?

Not for now. We assess salary through your salary-account bank statement, so your salary must be credited to a bank account.

Will a salary certificate from my employer help?

It may support an application with some lenders, but most digital lenders rely on the bank statement to verify income.

Part of my salary is cash. What counts?

Usually only the part credited to your bank account by your employer. Plan your loan on that figure.

How long after switching to bank salary can I apply?

It differs by lender. Omozing asks for a 6-month salary-account statement, so a few months of regular credits make the strongest application.

Can a co-applicant help if I am paid in cash?

A co-applicant’s credited income may strengthen an application, but you still need verifiable income of your own to be the main applicant with most lenders.
