Omozing Answers › Loan apps and consolidation

Which app loan should I repay first?

First, anything overdue. Then, usually the loan that costs the most per rupee per day. App loans normally have to be repaid in one go, and each extension adds a fee plus more interest, so compare the cost of one more month for each loan, per ₹1,000 owed. Clearing the most expensive first (the avalanche method) saves the most money. Clearing the smallest first (the snowball method) closes apps faster and cuts collection calls. Either beats paying extension fees on every app.

What changes the answer

Overdue status

An overdue loan can be reported late and attract penal charges. It comes first, whatever its cost. Unpaid app loans and CIBIL.

Extension fee

A one-time fee each time you roll over. On a 30-day loan it is often the biggest part of the cost.

Daily interest

Small per day, large over 30 days. Add it to the fee for the true monthly cost.

Size of the loan

Smaller loans can be closed outright from one salary; partial payments are often not accepted.

Due date

The loan due first forces the first decision: repay it or pay to extend it.

Your spare cash this month

What is left after rent, food and other EMIs decides how many loans you can clear.

An example: Ananya’s three apps

Ananya is an illustrative profile, not a real customer. After rent, food and bills she has ₹32,000 a month to put towards three 30-day app loans worth ₹43,000. The app terms below are illustrative. To compare them fairly, she works out what one more month would cost per ₹1,000 owed, per day.

Cost of one more month, per ₹1,000 owed per day

App P · ₹9,000 ₹7.00 App Q · ₹13,000 ₹11.33 App R · ₹21,000 ₹15.00 Extension fee plus 30 days’ interest, divided by the amount and by 30. Drawn to scale.

Illustrative terms: P 6% fee and 0.5% a day; Q 10% fee and 0.8% a day; R 15% fee and 1% a day. Monthly rollover cost: P ₹1,890, Q ₹4,420, R ₹9,450.

The largest loan is also the most expensive here, so the two methods point in opposite directions. She has to clear some loans in full and pay to extend the rest.

MethodMonth 1Month 2Extension charges paidApps open after month 1
Avalanche (costliest first)Clears R; extends P and QClears P and Q₹6,3102
Snowball (smallest first)Clears P and Q; extends RClears R₹9,4501
Extend everything, pay “a bit” on eachExtends all threeStill owes ₹43,000₹15,760 in month 1 alone3

Extension charges paid until all three are closed

Avalanche ₹6,310 Snowball ₹9,450 Extend all, 1 month ₹15,760 Drawn to scale. Illustrative; ₹32,000 a month available for app loans.

Avalanche saves Ananya ₹3,140, which she keeps by the end of month 2. Snowball costs more but leaves her with one app instead of two after the first month, which can matter if reminder calls are wearing her down. Try your own numbers in the loan-app cost calculator.

When it gets harder, and what helps

How lenders look at it

Future lenders see the result, not the method. An overdue mark hurts far more than the extra fee you might save, which is why overdue loans come first. After that, fewer open loans and no new app borrowing tell a lender that the problem is shrinking, and that is what makes the next loan easier to get.

At Omozing

SmartSwitch consolidates several short-term loan-app loans into one Omozing loan with one EMI, so you deal with one lender and one due date. The money goes to your own bank account; you close each app loan and share the NOCs. A credit officer reads your full credit report, not just the score.

What most people get wrong: they repay whichever app calls most often. The loudest app is not necessarily the most expensive one. Check what one more month of each loan costs per ₹1,000, clear anything overdue, then follow one method and stick to it.

No order fits inside your salary?

Replace the apps with one EMI, or build a step-by-step plan to close them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the avalanche or the snowball method better for app loans?

Avalanche usually costs less because the most expensive loan stops charging first. Snowball closes apps faster, which some people need to stay on track.

Should I repay the loan with the highest interest rate first?

Compare the full monthly cost instead: the extension fee plus 30 days’ interest, divided by the amount. A low rate with a big fee can cost more.

What if an app loan is already overdue?

Repay it first. Overdue loans can be reported to bureaus and attract penal charges. See what one missed payment does.

Can I part-pay an app loan?

Some apps accept part-payments, many do not, and a part-payment may not avoid the extension fee. Check the app’s terms.
